Guess who's been here lately?
Each year, Malta plays host to a number of international conferences, cultural events and international sporting tournaments such as football, snooker and power boat racing (PI Race, known as the Grand Prix of Malta). Yachting competitions have also been held on the island.

On the political scene, tiny Malta scores high on the popularity scale, with major visits from distinguished leaders from around the world every year.

French President elect Nicolas Sarkozy spent the first day after his election win relaxing in Malta. Many VIP visitors come into Malta frequently and go un-noticed by the international media. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip have chosen Malta to spend their second honeymoon in November 2008, confirming the extent of the island's charm.

No wonder that with so much happening on the 122 square miles of the island, it is as likely to meet someone famous in the streets of Malta, than it is in London, Paris or New York. Travellers are often surprised to learn that irrespective of the size and population, the island's cultural scene is packed and eventful. From film festivals, to operatic concerts featuring international divas such as Bocelli, Carreras, Joseph Calleja and more.

Popular music legends like Elton John, Sting, Bryan Adams and others have all featured in summer festivals, which attract large crowds. This list of visiting stars from the music world grows longer every year.
